About This Countdown Timer

Blue hour is a lie, technically. The sky has not turned blue, it has just run out of sun and is holding on to the last of it, and for about eleven minutes every light in the city becomes the main event. That is when I shoot. Tripod, low ISO, thirty seconds, and suddenly the whole waterfront turns into a mirror with a city standing on top of it. Canada Place with its five sails glowing white, the towers behind, one boat with its deck lights carving a bright line across the water. I like that this frame is almost empty in the middle. Water does that. It gives the lights somewhere to go. I stood there long enough that my hands went stiff and a security guard asked if I was alright. I was. I was just waiting out the eleven minutes. If you are ever in a harbour city at dusk and you see somebody with a tripod looking smug, that is what they are doing. The water goes completely still at this hour, which is why the reflections come out so clean and doubled. They are stealing the sky before it goes black.
