About This Countdown Timer

Long exposure does something honest to a city. It smooths out the traffic, softens the edges, turns the water into a mirror that holds every light like it's afraid to let go. This is Vancouver's harbour at night — the white dome of the stadium glowing on the left, a forest of towers lit up along the shore, and all of it doubled in the black water below. I stood on the far bank with the cold coming off the inlet and just let it sit with me. It's the kind of view that makes you go quiet. The city's still moving, ferries, cars, someone's late dinner, but from here it all looks calm, ordered, almost gentle. I think that's why I love waterfronts at night. They promise a city that's at peace with itself, even if it isn't. If you're ever in Vancouver, find a quiet spot across the water and wait for the full dark. Watch the reflections settle. The water does half the composition. Everything above the shoreline repeats below it, softer, broken up by wind, and the effect is a city that goes on in both directions. Then walk home slowly.
