Vancouver Dusk Purple Clouds Countdown Timer

Some evenings the sky decides to put on a show and the city just has to sit there and take it. This was one of those. The clouds stacked up dark and heavy over the mountains, all bruised purple and slate, and then at the very bottom the sun found a gap and lit the horizon on fire, this thin band of orange that made the whole thing look painted. Down below, Vancouver was already switching on, office towers glowing warm, the water going still, a little ferry crawling across the inlet. I stood at a window with my phone in my hand and then put it down, because some things you should just absorb first. The Province sign glowed off to the right like it was trying to be part of the drama. I don't think I've ever seen this city look so cinematic. If you're ever here when the sky goes strange, stop what you're doing. Go to a high window. Watch it for ten minutes. The buildings down there are just silhouettes now, dark shapes with a handful of windows still lit, and the water has gone the color of the sky. The weather doesn't perform on schedule, and the good nights are gone before you notice.
